 Administers advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital and interfacility setting, as authorized and directed by the Medical Director, and Base Station Physician or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse, by performing the following duties, within the prescribed scope of practice and all applicable regulatory guidelines for prehospital care.


  • Receives and gives an accurate and concise report regarding the patient's condition, necessary interventions, and medical outcome of treatments administered.
  • Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.
  • Restores and stabilizes heart rhythm and ventilation on the pulseless and/or non-breathing patient.
  •  Provides cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and recording.
  • Takes and records patient's vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate.
  • Initiates intravenous access to administer medications or fluids.
  • Performs advanced airway management, including endotracheal intubation, to establish an airway and ventilate patients.
  • Administers oral, sublingual, parenteral, and inhaled medications.
  • Assists in extricating trapped victims and administers initial treatment at emergency scenes.
  • Drives mobile intensive care unit.
  • Transports sick and injured persons to acute receiving and extended care facilities.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the Base Station; patient's condition and reaction to drugs, interventions, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Communicates with the Base Station and other medical personnel via radio-telephone.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities of the EMS Agency, Base Station hospital and the Company including chart audits, peer review and data collection activities, tape reviews and focused studies.
  • Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor and proctor.
  • Serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business and community activities.




Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must maintain current provider status in basic and advanced cardiac life support and obtain pediatric life support provider certification within the first six months of employment.

Occasionally:    Lifting no greater than 137 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing,

                        kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, sitting, upper and lower body flexibility.

                        driving an ambulance, field support vehicle, or other assigned vehicle.

Frequently:       Carrying no more than 90 pounds.

Constantly:       Hearing, listening, clear speech, upper and lower body flexibility, seeing, multiple physical activities performed at the same time. Carrying no more than 40 pounds.



Occasionally:    Works alone, outside, confined areas, temperature changes, cleaning  

materials, exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals.

Frequently:       Walking inside and outside confined areas, extreme heat and cold, temperature

                        changes, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mechanical, electrical and

                        Pressurized equipment, burning materials, moving objects, high

places, extended days.

Constantly:       Works with and around others, face-to-face and verbal contacts with others,

                        Shift work, inside. Hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, seeing.



Occasionally:    Complex reading and writing, memorization, simple math skills, judgment,

                        reasoning, decision-making.

Frequently:       Analyzing, perception/computation, problem solving.

Constantly:       Simple reading and writing, memorization, simple math skills, judgment, reasoning, decision-making.



Frequently:       Computer/typewriter, facsimile, gurney, maps, bandaging, suction equipment,

                        Airway equipment/airway bag, disposable supplies, durable equipment, cleaning

                        equipment, protective devices and clothing.

Occasionally:    Radio, calculator, copy machine, stapler, 3 whole punch, stamping, sharpener,

                        hose, vacuum cleaner, protective clothing.

Constantly:       Portable radio, maps, and pager.
