Provides a continuous level of critical care nursing services and advanced cardiac life support care to critically ill and injured patients being transported by ambulance and performing the following duties.




  • Conducts a physical assessment on the patient, determines their nursing needs, and devises a plan for each individual.
  • Receives and delivers nursing report on the patient including significant events during the hospital course, administration of medications and medical interventions, pertinent laboratory results, and diagnostic data.
  • Provides constant monitoring and assessment of the patient, and immediate treatment when needed.
  • Calls for the initiation of emergency procedures and diversion of transport, and administers treatment upon recognizing physiological deterioration of the patient.
  • Operates and maintains life-support equipment and systems.
  • Documents vital signs, significant conditions, and reactions.
  • Observes behavior of patient to determine psychological state and provides emotional support and reassurance to allay anxiety.
  • Communicates with the patient, critical care transport team members, healthcare facility staff members, and the patient's family or significant others appropriate information regarding the patient's condition.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities including chart audits, peer review and data collection activities.
  • Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor, and proctor.
  • Serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business and communities activities.




Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Two years of experience in a critical care area within the previous 30 months prior to employment.  Completion of 96 hours of documented critical care experience within the last year.  Successful completion of a skills competency evaluation program. Familiarity with the COBRA/EMTALA laws. California Driver's License, Unrestricted California State Licensed Registered Nurse, Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider.  Specialty certification (CEN, CCRN, MICN, etc.) in at least one area.

Occasionally:    Lifting no greater than 137 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing,

                        Kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, sitting, upper and lower body flexibility.

                        Driving an ambulance, field support vehicle, or other assigned vehicle.

Frequently:       Carrying no more than 90 pounds.

Constantly:       Hearing, listening, clear speech, upper and lower body flexibility, seeing, multiple physical activities performed at the same time. Carrying no more than 40 pounds.



Occasionally:    Works alone, outside, confined areas, temperature changes, Cleaning  


Frequently:       Walking inside and outside confined areas, extreme heat and cold, temperature

                        Changes, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mechanical, electrical and

                        Pressurized equipment, burning materials, moving objects, high

places, extended days.

Constantly:       Works with and around others, face-to-face and verbal contacts with others,

                        Shift work, inside.  Hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, seeing.



Occasionally:    Complex reading and writing, memorization, simple math skills, judgment,

                        reasoning, decision-making.

Frequently:       Analyzing, perception/computation, problem solving.

Constantly:       Simple reading and writing, memorization, simple math skills, judgment, reasoning, decision-making.



Occasionally:    3-hole punch, stamping, sharpener.

Frequently:       Facsimile, cleaning, calculator, copy machine, stapler.

Constantly:       Computer, phone, copy machine, printer.
